Papers, 1792-1970, (bulks 1824-1970).

The unbound papers consist of family correspondence, family photographs, a map of the Pilot Knob survey, legal documents and relevant business correspondence, and miscellaneous newsclippings, poems and cures. Bound papers include two notebooks, correspondence, deeds and newsclippings. All relate to the Kimball family, their slaves, business transactions and personal lives.

Thomas Moody Kimball (1810-1884) brought his family and slaves from his native North Carolina to Texas in 1838, when it was a republic, settling first in Cass County and later in Hunt County east of Greenville, Texas. Over the years, he became a prominent pioneer citizen, helped organize a rural church and served a term as a tax assessor after the Civil War.
